Delete your data
How to ask Indlela to delete your information, and what we do when you ask.
Requesting deletion
You can ask us to delete your information at any time. Two ways:
- Reply "delete my data" in your Indlela chat.
- Email support@indleladaily.co.za from the address you have registered with us, or tell us your WhatsApp number.
Cancelling your subscription does not delete your information by itself. Cancelling stops the readings and the billing. Deletion is a separate request, and you can make it at the same time or later.
What we delete
- Your WhatsApp number and display name from our subscriber records.
- Your language, plan, delivery hour and voice preference.
- Your delivery records.
- Your prayer intentions, and the consent records connected to them.
- Your marketing consent, where you gave one.
What we must keep
We keep a record of the payment itself for as long as tax law requires, because we have to account for the money. That record holds the transaction and the amount, not your reading preferences and not your intentions. When the tax period passes, we delete it too.
If part of your information must be kept, we tell you which part and why.
What we do first
Before we delete, we confirm it is you asking, so that nobody can delete your information on your behalf. We may ask you to reply from the same WhatsApp number you subscribed with.
How long it takes
We action deletion requests as soon as we reasonably can, and we confirm in the chat when it is done. Prayer intentions follow the same rule even without a deletion request: 90 days after your subscription ends, or 90 days after the intention is actioned, whichever comes first, we delete them or remove anything that could identify you.
What stays visible
Two things do not change when you delete your information.
- The published charity ledger stays up. It shows monthly totals and the organisations that received them, and it never contained your personal information.
- Aggregate counts may stay in our internal records, for example how many readings were delivered in a month. Those counts do not identify you.
If you want a copy instead
You can ask for a copy of what we hold before you decide about deletion. Reply to the chat or email support@indleladaily.co.za, and we will send it to you.
Still stuck
If we have not actioned your request, or you are not satisfied with the answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator. Their details are on our contact page and on inforeg.org.za.
