Information Officer: not yet appointed
We handle your information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Our PAIA manual is available from the Information Officer on request.
Your beliefs are special information, and we treat them that way
Subscribing to a Christian devotional tells us something about your beliefs. POPIA treats information about religious beliefs as special personal information, and it needs your explicit consent.
So we ask for two separate consents when you join:
- Consent to deliver the devotional, which means handling the information the service needs.
- Explicit consent to the fact that subscribing reveals your beliefs, which we record separately.
We also ask separately if you want to receive anything else from us by marketing. You can say no to that and still subscribe. The daily devotional is the service you paid for, not marketing.
What we hold
- Your WhatsApp number and your display name.
- Your language, your plan, your delivery hour and, on an audio plan, your voice choice.
- Your consent records, with the date and the wording you agreed to.
- Delivery records, so we know whether your reading was sent.
- Your payment status. Not your card details: our payment provider handles those.
- If you are on the Prayer-Intent plan, the intentions you send, and the consent you gave for them.
We do not build a profile of your beliefs, and we do not build a reading history beyond what we need to run the service and answer you when something goes wrong.
What we do with it
- Deliver your daily reading in your language, at your hour.
- Run your subscription, take payment and manage billing.
- Answer you when you reply to the chat.
- Carry a prayer intention into the intercessory practice, if you are on that plan.
- Meet our legal duties, including tax and record-keeping.
We do not sell your information. We do not rent it. We do not use your intention content for marketing.
Who else processes it
Meta. Your readings are delivered through WhatsApp, which Meta runs. Meta processes message data as our operator, under its own terms for businesses, and message data leaves South Africa for Meta's systems. We rely on your consent and on the performance of our contract with you to transfer it, and we hold Meta to security and confidentiality obligations.
Our payment provider. Our payment provider processes your payment as our operator. We never receive your card details.
The people who carry the intercessory practice. They see intention content so they can pray. They are bound to keep it private and they may not use it for anything else.
We do not share your information with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Subscription and consent records: while you are subscribed, and for as long as tax and record-keeping law requires afterwards.
- Delivery records: for as long as we need them to run the service and resolve a problem.
- Prayer intentions: 90 days after your subscription ends, or 90 days after the intention is actioned, whichever comes first. Then we delete them or remove anything that could identify you.
- Marketing consent records: until you withdraw that consent.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can:
- ask what we hold about you and get a copy;
- ask us to correct anything wrong;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a lawful reason to keep;
- object to how we use your information;
- withdraw a consent at any time;
- complain to the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these, reply to the chat or email support@indleladaily.co.za. The data deletion page explains how deletion works and what we cannot delete.
How we keep it safe
Access to subscriber information is limited to the people who need it to run the service. Intention content is kept in a restricted place with an access record, and only the people who carry the practice can open it. If a security breach puts your information at risk, we tell you and the Information Regulator as soon as we reasonably can.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we update this page and tell you in the chat.
